Former Mayor of Detroit Kwame Kilpatrick found guilty of 24 Federal charges; remanded direct to prison

2:45 PM ET -  BREAKING- "Detention is required in this circumstance", U.S. Federal Judge Edmunds stated in the court room. The Former Mayor of Detroit Kwame Kilpatrick and Bobby Freguson have been taken into immediately custody by U.S. Federal Marshall's authorities.

After 14 full days of deliberation in the former Mayor of Detroit Kwame Kilpatrick federal corruption trial, the jury announced verdicts Monday morning.

Kilpatrick has been found guilty of the most serious charge of racketeering. Bobby Ferguson also was found guilty of racketeering. Kilpatrick Father, Bernard Kilpatrick only found guilty on the charge of racketeering filing a false tax return.
Kwame Kilpatrick and Ferguson could face up to 20 years in prison for the racketeering conviction and additional years for the guilty verdict on extortion. Kilpatrick was visibly impacted by the verdict when  he exited the Federal Courtroom.
"Not at this time. I don't have any comment," Kwame Kilpatrick said to reporters while walking out of court.

The panel of eight women and four men deliberated for close to 100 hours before finally reaching the decisions. The verdict, originally formatted on Friday, March 8 was read on Monday by Judge Nancy Edmunds.  

The prosecution wants Kwame Kilpatrick and Ferguson in custody immediately. The judge will decide that during a 2:00 PM ET meeting if Kilpatrick and Ferguson will be placed in custody immediately.
