What was GOP Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney thinking?
In a campaign stop in Commerce Township, Michigan within Oakland County this afternoon, Mitt Romney made a "dogwhistle" type joke to a largely Caucasian crowd of up to 1,000 residents.
“I love being home, in this place where Ann and I were raised, where both of us were born,” Romney said as his wife, Ann, and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) stood next to him on the podium. Ann was born in Henry Ford Hospital, I was born in Harper Hospital. No one’s ever asked to see my birth certificate; they know that this is the place where both of us were born and raised,” he said.
As with Mr. Obama Sr. and former Gov. George Romney, facts that neither one of the now Presidential Candidates birth Fathers' was born inside the United States makes any bit of difference since only their son's, who are both U.S. citizens by natural birth, were born in the Country. Thus, allowing the current U.S. President Barack Obama and his prospective challenger Mitt Romney, who needed to remind Michigan crowd of attendees he was born in the state, eligible to run for the highest elected office of President in the U.S. by being natural born citizens per Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution.
No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States.
