Press Release

LANSING - U.S. Congressional candidate Lance Enderle (MI-08) released his first internet advertisement yesterday. The 60-second ad calls out Enderle's opponent, incumbent Mike Rogers, for his silence on the 2010 Enbridge pipeline oil spill in Calhoun County, MI, where Enbridge's Lakehead Pipeline 6B burst, spilling close to a million gallons of tar sands oil into the Kalamazoo River.

The Enbridge spill was the biggest and most expensive inland oil spill in U.S. history. Two years after the spill, the Kalamazoo River is still contaminated.

Enbridge, a Canadian company with similar ambitions as Keystone operator TransCanada, has mostly succeeded in avoiding the national spotlight for its safety shortcomings, despite the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) slamming their lax safety measures and "Keystone Kops" response to the Kalamazoo River spill. They have also successfully avoided the national spotlight for their bullying and strong-arm tactics when it comes to building on private property.

In the last few months, Enbridge has taken to bulldozing backyards in Livingston and Oakland Counties despite "No Trespassing" signs, and posting armed guards near construction sites that run through private property.

Enderle says it's time for lawmakers, especially his opponent, to give this issue the attention it deserves.
"We need to start having a conversation about who Mike truly represents." Enderle said. "It's not the people of Michigan's 8th District. This is apparent by his lack of addressing citizens' concerns regarding Enbridge."
Enderle pointed to Mike's conspicuous absence at any public meetings about Enbridge.
"Last week, Mike was invited to attend a public meeting on Enbridge in Brandon Township. I was there - where was Mike? Why is he silent? Is it because he's taken money from Enbridge and their associates, and that's who he truly represents in this matter?" Said Enderle. "Congress has been on vacation since the end of July, yet there's been no sign of Mike anywhere in the district."

"What it boils down to is this: Mike has forgotten who he was elected to serve." Enderle said. "It's time for a change in Michigan's 8th District."
