Michigan Board of Canvassers decide four ballot proposals, August 15th

Four additional Michigan referendum amendments were approved by Department of State, obtaining the minimum number of signatures needed for appearance on the General Election ballot November 6th.

The Secretary of State-Bureau of Elections branch completed its' sampling of signatures on petitions for the proposals Monday, August 13th.

On Wednesday, August 15th, Michigan's Board of Canvassers will meet, deciding if the referendum drives language fit withhin clear definition standard, for voters can decide to affirm or deny November 6th, the ballot proposals.
Proposals include adding collective bargaining rights for unionized workers, renewable energy rules for utilities known as the "2025 Initiative", regulation of the in-home care providers industry in Michigan "Keep Home Health Care Safe", and opening more areas for casino gambling.

"Michigan Citizens Protecting Our Constitution" group filed a 91 page challenge to the State Board of Canvassers on August 9th desiring to disregard signatures gathered in support of the collective bargain rights proposal, known as the "Protect Our Jobs Initiative", prior to ballot language being approved Wednesday.

Contained in the opposing groups' original challenge language, was a statement were they compared the signed petitions to a "sheep woven wooden sweater".

Two other proposed ballot issues, requiring two-thirds majorities in the state House and Senate to raise taxes and restricting new U.S.-Canadian bridge construction, await signature approval by the Department of State. All proposals seeking placement on November 6th ballot, must be approved by the Board of Canvassers and Bureau of Elections offices by August 27th.

Legislatively, Michigan's House and Senate will hold a one-day session on Wednesday, where controversial abortion rights measure, H.B. 5711 is scheduled to be voted upon the Senate Chamber.
