"We are ecstatic that the high court in Michigan upheld democracy on today. After months of collecting signatures and legal fights that were mere stall tactics, we are thrilled that the people's right to decide has been protected in Michigan. In a season where voting rights are being trumped around the country, the Michigan Supreme Court has sent a resounding message to those in Michigan and around the country that justice is blind and should not be swayed by partisan politics.
All the citizens wanted is the right to decide if emergency manager's should be allowed to come into their cities and/or school districts and trump the rights of their duly elected officials. Today we celebrate a partial victory, but our full victory is in our vote. Now we will begin the work of voter education and mobilization," said D. Alexander Bullock.
On Saturday, August 4th Rainbow PUSH Michigan will hold an organizing meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the Occupy Detroit headquarters located at 5900 Michigan Ave., Detroit, MI 48209 to discuss voter education efforts and the Crusade for America Parent and Youth March. Rainbow PUSH Michigan will commence the Crusade for America Parent and Youth March on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at Noon.
This national march will focus on emergency reinvestment, economic recovery in urban America, the expansion of employment, educational opportunities for youth and returning citizens, the protection of our voting rights, reviving the ban on assault weapons, zero tolerance school expulsion and truancy policies, and the racial divide in America. The march will feature peace and justice workshops, music, art, direct action trainings and a job fair. Much more than a march, Crusade for America is a movement!
