(DETROIT) – As violence continues to take the lives of many across the nation D. Alexander Bullock and Rainbow PUSH Michigan remind citizens to meet in Detroit this August 25th for the Crusade for America Parent and Youth March. The concern for public safety is growing at a rapacious rate.
In the last week 7-year-old Heaven Sutton was killed by a stray bullet in Chicago while selling lemonade and 19-year-old Anthony Whaley was ambushed after pumping gas at a local Detroit gas station.
“The loss of human life is a tragedy. Many victims of violence fade away into oblivion because they are young, poor and minority. We must stand with the Trayvon Martin in all of our communities. We seek to intentionally change the culture of violence and create a urban peace movement. Arms are not the answer. We need to revive the ban on assault weapons, implement tighter penalties on straw purchase sellers and resurrect the war on poverty and unemployment in this country,” said D. Alexander Bullock
This national march will focus on emergency reinvestment, economic recovery in urban America, the expansion of employment, educational opportunities for youth and returning citizens, the protection of our voting rights, reviving the ban on assault weapons, zero tolerance school expulsion and truancy policies, and the racial divide in America.
The march will feature peace and justice workshops, music, art, direct action trainings and a job fair. Much more than a march, Crusade for America is a movement!
