In response to a proposed lighting reduction and proposed cuts to the police department budget, minister’s are concerned about the safety of their parishioners and citizens.
“Public safety must be the top priority in Detroit. There have been too many casualties and too many homicides. We are at war within our own borders. We need an emergency response. We need an urban policy that takes guns out, turns lights on and brings jobs in,” said D. Alexander Bullock.Lights Out – Jobs In is a part of a two day Father’s Day initiative entitled Guns Out, Lights On, Jobs In. On Saturday, June 16, 2012 concerned clergy will hold a prayer vigil at Action Impact Gun Shop to highlight the influx of guns and the loss of jobs into Detroit and other urban communities around the nation.
Guns Out, Lights On, Jobs In- is the second mobilization event for the Rainbow PUSH Michigan Crusade for America Parent and Youth March.
The Crusade for America Parent and Youth March is part of a larger urban peace movement that demands an end to the flow of guns in urban communities, stable neighborhoods through increased employment and better education and eradicating the culture of violence.
