Lansing -Occupy Lansing will hold a protest and a vigil at the State Capitol on November 2nd, with the protest at 2 p.m. and the candle-lite vigil at approximately 7:30 p.m., after their General Assembly at Reutter Park at 7 p.m.
“We'll be standing in solidarity with our brothers and sisters who were brutally attacked last week in Oakland, California.
It is saddening to see this level of police brutality carried out against peaceful protesters who are exercising their First Amendment right to assemble,” said Ian Eberhart, one of the Occupy Lansing spokespeople for the day.
Protesters from Occupy Oakland began marching back to their occupation after the Oakland Police destroyed their tents and chased them out of their encampment the night before.  The police resisted the unarmed march with rubber bullets, flashbang grenades, and canisters of tear gas.  One protester, former US Marine Scott Olsen, stood alone in front of the crowd  when an officer fired off a canister of tear gas directly at him, which cracked his skull and sent him into critical condition.

As other protesters rushed to his aid, the same officer threw a flash grenade into the gathered group, attempting to scatter them as they tended to the wounded hero.  He was rushed to the Highland Hospital where he was received in critical condition.  Three days later, he was promoted to fair condition and appears to be on path to a recovery.

Occupy Lansing is a leaderless movement. Spokespeople have been appointed and approved by a vote of the General Assembly, which is open to all interested in participating in the movement.

We, the General Assembly of Lansing, do hereby declare the occupation of Solidarity Squ
are in Reutter Park. We stand in solidarity with the movement at Wall Street and others around the world. We are here to stay until a more just, equitable system manifests itself for the 99% of Americans who so desperately need it now. We are strong, we are peaceful, we are united. We are Occupy Lansing.
