Recall vote for state Rep. Paul Scott is on-again after Michigan Supreme Court ruling
The on, off again ruling with state Rep. Paul Scott (R-Grand Blanc) recall is on-again, with a date set for a up or down vote for Scott’s continued tenure in the Michigan House of Representatives, November 8th.
The ruling is the latest twist in a political battle fought in courtrooms over the past month weeks as Scott’s attorneys challenged the validity of recall petition signatures that had been collected at a time whenan earlier legal challenge to petition signatures was pending.
In a surprising move, the state conservative leading Supreme Court in a near unanimous decision, said the injunction blocking the election should not have been issued because “it is not clear (Scott) is likely to prevail on the merits” of the underlying case.
Scott will be the first and only lawmaker, to date, of 29 targeted by recall campaigns this year to face voters. He was targeted by the Michigan Education Association for, among other things, voting to adopt a state budget which contained cuts in public school funding.
