Mejiers announce plans to hire hundreds of seasonal workers

Grand Rapids based Mejier’s announced on October 5th, its’ intent to add hundreds of seasonal jobs thought-out the Midwest and in their Michigan locations.
The news comes as employers announced 115,730 job cuts in September, the worst month for job cuts in since April 2009. Additionally, Michigan’s unemployment rate hit 11.9% for last month.
Specific number of jobs available at Mejier’s locations would vary from store to store. The retailer cited and pay rates would diverge, based on job descriptions and previous experience.
"Meijer is known for friendly customer service, in order to provide the service our customers expect during the busiest time of the year, we need to be sure we are staffed properly”, Executive Vice President of Operations Jane Emerson stated to WXYZ.com.
"We are looking forward to welcoming new team members into the Meijer family who will help us take care of our customers," she cited.
Mejier’s is seeking seasonal employees in the stores’ Meat Department, Bakery, Deli, Utility, General Merchandise, Cashier & Customer Service, 3rd Shift Stocking and Grocery Departments.
Interested applicants in the positions are encouraged to apply either online at www.joinmeijer.com or at local store locations via the careers kiosk.
“While many of these positions are for part-time holiday work, Meijer is always looking for quality people to join our teams and these types of positions will provide great exposure to a variety of retail career options,” said Jenny Hawat, a Meijer vice president who oversees hiring to the Detroit Free Press.
