Tom Kowalski passes suddenly at
age 51.
Veteran's Detroit Lions sportswriter and reporter Tom Kowalski was reportedly found unresponsive at his home late this morning. He was pronounced dead at Huron Valley Sinai Hospital in Commerce Township on August 29th.

Kowalski wrote for Booth Newspapers and He was a big name journalist on the Lions football beat.

He began reporting on the team when he was with the Oakland Press and maintained a number of loyal fans in the Michigan area on Sports Radio 1130 AM and local television sport shows programming. Kowalski was 51 years old.

In Kowaski's last article for on August 29th posted at 8AM, he wrote about leadership of Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford against their third preseason win his year, against the New England Patriots.
"That's one of the reasons the Detroit Lions used their hurry-up offense in Saturday's 34-10 preseason win against the Patriots at Ford Field. By not going into a huddle and approaching the line of scrimmage after every play, the Lions didn't allow Wilfork to catch his breath. He's easier to block that way," Kowaski wrote in his last article.

The Detroit Lions Organization released this statement this afternoon on Kowalski's importance to the franchise as a reporter this afternoon:
“The entire Lions organization, the Ford family, and me, personally, were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Tom Kowalski this morning,” said Detroit Lions Team President Tom Lewand. “Tom was a true professional, the consummate beat writer, somebody who brought a lot of tremendous information to our fans — even in times of disagreement; we always had the utmost respect for his professionalism.
“He will be sorely missed and our deepest sympathies go out to Diane and to his entire family. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of them.”
Kowalski's last known Tweet will leave his fans with remembrance and sadness for his unexpected loss to Lions Football and sports reporting.
"OK fellas, here we go ... Sleep well, I'll most likely kill you in the morning ..." Kowalski noted in one of his last tweets.
Mourning his lost, Tom Kowalski leaves behind a fiancée Diane, family, friends and many Michigan sports fans.
