Washtenaw County residents and others can express their ideas on Governor Rick Snyder (R) proposed cuts to K-12 Michigan School funding at a roundtable in Ann Arbor on May 6th, at Pioneer High School, 601 W. Stadium Blvd. beginning at 5:30 PM, reported on Ann Arbor.com.

Seven state legislative representatives will be in attendance, including Mark Ouimet (R-Scio Township), Jeff Irwin (D-Ann Arbor), David Rutledge (D-Ypsilanti), Rick Olson (R-Saline), Ellen Cogen Lipton (D-Huntington Woods), Jim Ananich (D-Flint) and state Sen. Rebekah Warren (D-Ann Arbor) are all attending the event.

State Sen. Randy Richardville- Republican leader of the Michigan Senate and Gov. Snyder have been invited.

The agenda for the roundtable will include a background of the budget history of Ann Arbor schools, what Gov. Snyder proposed budget means for the district and a discussion of reforms. Also, there will be time allotted in the schedule for public comments.

Snyder has proposed a new $300-per-pupil cut on top of a $170-per-pupil cut from the current fiscal year that will not be restored.

Last week, the Republican controlled Senate passed a budget with a reduced $170-per-pupil cut on top of the existing $170-per-pupil cut that would not be restored. The GOP controlled House, has yet to vote on school cut funding but, considering a vote they passed on May 4th on other parts of Snyder’s budget, it would appears K-12 school funding is in jeopardy.

Cuts passed by the House in their most recent vote included a $25 million cut to the film incentive credit, limiting lifetime state welfare benefits to 48 months, cutting 34 state police and taking 20 million away from local transportation systems.
