The MLHS chart details the number of Michigan
based 99ers who were the first group
impacted by the state recession that
began in mid-late 2008
Reasons for 99ers number being so high in this state based upon two combined factors. First Michigan’s job losses accelerated in mid-to-late 2008. Second, there are currently more unemployed Michiganders in the state than employment opportunities available.
The MLHS advises Michiganders who are 99ers to logon to the Michigan Helping Hand website to determine if they are eligible for food assistance, Medicaid or MiChild health insurance. MiChild provides low-cost health, dental and limited vision insurance to state residents under the age of 18. There is a $10.00 monthly premium with the program and to be eligible, family’s must between certain levels.
