Even after Keith Olbermann’s rightful return to his MSNBC program “Countdown with Keith Olbemann” this coming Tuesday, November 9, more news continues to break on the story. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who wrote a letter to the network, asking for the return of Olbermann to his prime-time program; announce that he would try to block a merger between NBC and Comcast.

Senator Sanders reasoning for this action is tied into the                decision last week by MSNBC to suspend liberal anchor Keith Olbermann.

Sanders stated Comcast's attempt to acquire NBC from General Electric would result in "another media giant run by a Republican supporter of George W. Bush," The Hill Reports.

The Vermont senator, who is independent that caucuses with Democrats, has criticized the network suspension of Olbermann last week, for allegedly violating company policies, when he donated to three Democratic candidates. The suspension was announced by MSNBC President Phil Griffin on late Friday Evening.

Sanders expressed concern that the precedent set by that suspension would result in MSNBC becoming more like Fox News, which is part of News Corporation (NewsCorp), ran by known Republican Rupert Murdoch. Liberals complain that coverage by large number News Corp. properties, trend to tilts to a Conservative point of view, mirroring many of Murdoch's own opinions.

The senator also pointed to Comcast's COO Stephen B. Burke's history as a major fundraiser for former President George W. Bush as a reason why the deal, which has drawn criticism from other lawmakers, as reasons why the deal should be blocked.

“As Vermont’s senator, I intend to do all that I can do to stop this merger. There already is far too much media concentration in this country," Sanders noted. "We do not need another media giant run by a Republican supporter of George W. Bush. That is the lesson we should learn from the Keith Olbermann suspension.”
