Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) bill S-3706, "The Americas Want to Work Act" has gained a renewed interest within the past week. As Michigan's unemployed job seekers learned that the nations' jobless claims increased by 12,000 to 465,000 this week and, are less than seven days left from entering the 18th month of double digitsunemployment rates; up to 250,000 jobless residents of the state' eagerly await the next actions, on the bill.
Greg Rosen, President of the grassroots group American 99ers Union, staged a nationwide fax/e-mail campaign on September 22, to urge each of the 50 Senators, to allow S-3706 to move out of the Congressional Committee. The America 99ers Union campaign position was to have S3706 make its' way onto the Senate floor, for an up or down vote; prior to the Senate recess period, beginning during the week of October 1.
Senator Stabenow's (D-MI) bill, S3706 "The Americans Want to Work Act", if passed, would provide up to 20 weeks of unemployment insurance compensation and up to a $2000 tax credit for business that hire the long termed unemployed, in states with a 7.5 percent or higher, unemployment rate. The long-term unemployed would receive supplemental insurance payments and job creation opportunities, would be individuals that have exhausted all forms of jobless benefits, to date.
As of the evening of September 24, the bill still remains within a Congressional committee. The Detroit Job Search Examiner, will contact Senator Stabenow's office, to obtain an official statement if, S-3706 will reach the Senate floor, prior to the recess, leading up to the November 2 elections.
After we have official confirmation from the Senator's office or another confirmed resource, we will update this story.
