Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) has announced she will write legislation, within the Senate, to extend unemployment compensation to the 99ers or Exhaustees.
The Detroit Job Search Examiner received a e-mail from the Senator Stabenow's Office on August 4th stating the following:
Earlier today, I introduced the Americans Want to Work Act, a bill that would provide 20 additional weeks of unemployment insurance to people in states like ours with high unemployment, Senator Stabenow wrote. This "tier five" of benefits would be a little different from the other tiers of unemployment benefits, however, because in addition to benefits, it would also include a tax cut for businesses that hire workers who have been looking for work the longest".
Senate Stabenow Warns that the Bill Faces a Tough Fight
majority of Republicans managed to successfully filibuster the prior unemployment bill,H.R.-4213 for over three months within the Senate. On June 26, crossover votes of Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) were gained, after job creation measures and Medicaid spending increases for physicians, were removed from the legislation:
Now, this bill is going to be tough to pass. The last regular extension was blocked for over three months in the Senate. I expect it will be an uphill battle to pass legislation to create this new tier, Senator Stabenow wrote. But I also know this is an important fight for Michigan families who have been hit the hardest by this recession – and I'm willing to lead that fight.
Detroit Job Search Examiner- Monica Ross-Williams exclusively reported at Examiner.com, on Monday, August 3, regarding a possible bill in the works. Senator Stabenow's spokesperson Miguel Ayala, referred us to an Editorial piece titled "Time to bring back the American Dream",  which Senator Stabenow wrote, that was posted in the Dearborn-Dearborn Heights (MI) Times-Herald:
I wish that the bill we passed helped those who have been looking for work the longest – the so-called "99ers." I'm working on a bill to help them because, when there are five people out of work for every one job opening, it's the right thing to do.
Senator Stabenow Request Help to Pass the "Americans Want to Work Act" from Michigan's Unemployed Job Seekers
Senator Stabenow is calling on Michigan's unemployed job seekers, who are 99ers or Exhaustees, to assist with her efforts to pass the "Americans Want to Work Act" into law. Michigan's current unemployment rate is the second highest in the nation, sitting in the double digits at 13.2 percent.
The Detroit Job Search Examiner-Monica Ross-Williams wants to work with Michigan's families that are affected by this employment crisis in our state, to help Senator Stabenow, pass this bill:
I want to hear stories from families in Michigan so I can explain the importance of this bill to my colleagues from other states, Senator Stabenow wrote. You can share yours by visiting my website at http://stabenow.senate.gov/email.cfm. I will continue fighting for families in Michigan by working to create jobs and strengthen our economy for the long run.
In addition, we will forward all previous stories received from our readers on the 99ers cause, to the Senator's Spokesperson. If you are a Michigan based 99er or unemployed job seeker, and will like to have your families story forwarded over to the Senator's Office, feel free to E-Mail the Detroit Job Search Examiner at detroitjobsearchexaminer@gmail.com.
