Unemployment Bill S-3706 is expected
to be brought to the Senate floor, later
today, staffers confirm.
BREAKING NEWS-September 29, 12:40 pm EST
It appears that the calls and faxes of up to 5 million 99ers will finally be acted upon, today. The Americans Want to Work Act Bill, S-3706 is expected to be brought up to within the Senate sometime this afternoon or evening. "Reach Out Job Search" blog writer, spoke to Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) local Michigan based offices and asked the following question at approximately 11:40 am EST:

"Will S3706 be brought to the floor (of the Senate) today? Has the bill been blocked as reported by another internet news resource?"

Ruth-Office Manager-Southeast Michigan Office-"I been told that S3706 is expected to be brought to the floor today. I do not know what time yet, they are bring the bill up to vote."

Lauren-Staffer- Mid-Michigan Office- "That (S-3706 going to the floor today) is what we are hoping for."

Matt-Staffer- Western Michigan Office- "As far as I know, they are still on track to consider the bill today."

"Reach Out Job Search" blog writer could not get though to the Washington, D.C. based office, this morning as repeated calls when unanswered.

A tweet was reported last evening by "Reach Out Job Search" that came from a unverified "Stabenow Press" account that stated the following:

"Senator Stabenow's bill, #S3706, The Americans Want to Work Act, will be on the Senate floor tomorrow. More info: http://bit.ly/bvf2oU"

Senator Stabenow Official Facebook account, has not updated any status since last evening but, with the various statements from the Senators state based offices, "Reach Out Job Search" will assume that the offices are factual with their knowledge.

On September 22, the American 99ers Union, staged a fax/call-in campaign, urging the elected Senators of all 50 states to bring S3706 to the floor. Many 99ers (individuals who received between 73-99 weeks of unemployment benefits and have been exhausted of any type of continual payments since March 2010) took part in this positive grassroots campaign.

Gregg Rosen, Co-Founder of the American 99ers Union appeared on Fox News on Saturday, September 25, to speak about the reasons that the grassroots union of 18 individual unemployment groups were formed and why it was so important that the Congress acts on the S3706 unemployment extension bill.

"Well we're trying to come at them with the fax and figures, Obviously millions are losing their homes, losing their lives and are dying emotional, spiritually and literally," Rosen stated. "You cannot take millions of out of the equalization, not provide them the ability to invest in our country economy thought the purchase of goods and services, without seeing the downward spiral you are seeing right now."

What are the next stages for unemployed job seekers with S3706? Calls and faxes to each of the 50 states Senators again, would be very useful to counteract an expected GOP Senate minority filibuster. On the last unemployment extension for the jobless that had not received up to 99 weeks of benefits, H.R.-4213, scheduled to expire on November 30, GOP minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) lead the charge to block the bill on three occasions

It should be noted that the bill, once passed by the Senate, will have to go to the House of Representatives for an up or down vote. If no changes are done to the bill within the House (correction), then S.3706 would be able to make its' way to President Obama desk, for an expected signature.

The legislation was finally successful when Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) crossed party lines to vote, in the affirmative. President Obama quickly signed the bill, into law on July 22.
